i don't think i have it...
i run sabayon which is gentoo based
when i tried running the command
i gotCode:sudo build-essential
i tried looking for it in ubuntu software centre's sabayon equivalent (entropy) but it said that it wasn't there.Code:sudo: build-essential: command not found
i then tried the command
but that did not work either as it just said thatCode:emerge build-essential
Code:emerge: there are no ebuilds to satisfy "build-essential". emerge: searching for similar names... nothing similar found.
Sorry, I know very little about Sayayon/Gentoo.i run sabayon which is gentoo based
build-essential is all the build tools required to compile these things. In Ubuntu it includes dpkg-dev, g++, gcc, libc6-dev and make. I'm sorry I can't help you further.

Great post, thanks
Sorry for bringing up this post, I just have to add a piece of wisdom in it, if it's not already been done. Today I could confirm, rt3070sta, a driver similar -if not the same- to 2870, could not connect to a network in channel 3 (maybe even more). Although I was able to connect after changing my router to channel 1. I tested 0 and 5 country regions in RT2870STA.DAT, as well as other options without any results. I just felt like posting it here, just in case someone experiences the same problem. To be honest, putting the info from all around the net together to install this &*#$, gave me some hard time.
Best Regards
